Large kitchens are a rarity in Mumbai due to the city’s constrained area. But looking at Buena Vista, my large open plan kitchen fantasy seemed to be feasible. Creating a design for Buena Vista was a challenge with concrete walls and the building being bound by society’s laws and regulations. The kitchen makeover looked to be fraught with difficulties. This necessitated a great deal of attention and care, as well as frequent trips to the site and the builder’s office for meeting with the architects.
The partitions between the servant room and the kitchen were torn down, and the servant’s toilet was converted to a powder room. For appropriate execution and operation of streamlining workers, we hired a contractor who had set off all the tradespeople working under him so that the task could be completed efficiently. We also engaged a supervisor to get a thorough daily report of the work done on the site, which improved coordination.
As a result of our dedicated work, we not only defined a modern home and set it apart from its predecessors, but also pioneered a very challenging project that made us feel at home instantly.
