THE INDISPENSABLES – Textures & Patterns !
Nature has unimaginable resources in its envelope, when it comes to textures & patterns. Oceans, forests, deserts, beaches, mountains, wherever you go, you find numerous examples of textures and patterns- coarse, sharp, smooth, silky, soft, shiny, dull, etc.
Out of our five senses, vision and touch play the main role in understanding a space in terms of interior design. Think about a mulmul cotton fabric or running your palm over a smooth marble countertop or say for example sleeping on an Egyptian cotton mattress? What do you feel? It ‘s so soothing, right!
When designing a space, the use of texture and pattern enumerates the comfort factor along with our experience. By using the right proportion, it is possible to achieve a harmonious and well balanced living space.
Texture has the ability to enhance other visual elements like patterns, colours, illustrations, content, etc. paired with it.
Interesting Facts
ALL SURFACES HAVE A TEXTURE, it’s the way you use them that determines the way your space will feel & appear. Smooth, shiny textures reflect more light, thereby creating a cool appearance & feeling. Soft raised textures absorb more light, add warmth & depth to a given place
Pastel coloured small sized patterns with a light background make the smaller room look more spacious. Strong, dramatic (depicting event/story or characters) large sized patterns with rich (pure) background colours give a bold look which work best in larger sized rooms. Subtle patterns can be created by combining different textures. Textures are most effective when used in monochromatic settings to balance the white / neutral shades.
Can you imagine our mother Earth without patterns and textures? How would it be? Won’t it be boring, plain, uninteresting? Basically how things feel & appear… Isn’t it very important for us!
Textures and Patterns are two key elements of interior design which together bring in character and an awesome vibe to your space.
What is Texture?
In simple words, it’s the quality of the surface that can be felt by touch or vision.
What is Pattern?
A repeated flow of design in a specified manner which creates a visual impression giving consistency to the surface, thus adding value to the space.
It’s proven that designs made with eco-friendly, sustainable materials are timeless, warm, aesthetically beautiful and inviting. It’s human nature to feel the urge to experience the surface by touch. Natural materials such as wood, stone and wool have proved to be calming and beneficial for the good health of the inmates.
